AI Automation Software: Workflows, Agents, and CRM-Native AI

An AI automation tool is a system that combines language models with repeatable workflow steps: classify, draft, decide, then call an API or update a record. It is not a “best AI tools of 2026” list, and it is not the same purchase as marketing-automation journeys.

Keep the nouns separate. An AI assistant answers a prompt. An AI agent is allowed to pick tools. Workflow automation (Zapier, Make, n8n) is trigger → steps, with or without a model in the middle. Marketing automation is lists, waits, and campaigns — see marketing automation software. Conversation and voice AI inside a CRM are another lane. WhatsApp template rules stay on WhatsApp automation.

What a buyer should pin down

• Deterministic vs probabilistic. Syncing a field should not depend on a model. Unstructured email triage might.
• Where the model sits. One AI node in a Zap vs an agent canvas that chooses the next tool.
• Hosting and keys. n8n documents cloud Starter/Pro plus a self-hosted Community Edition on GitHub. Self-host means you bring keys and ops.
• Meter. n8n bills workflow executions (a full run, not per step) on cloud plans. Other vendors bill tasks or credits. Do not compare those units as if they were the same.

n8n — technical workflows, documented cloud prices

n8n’s pricing page (retrieved 2026-08-28) lists cloud Starter at €20/month billed annually (2,500 executions, 2,300 AI credits/month) and Pro at €50/month billed annually (10,000 executions). Business is listed at €667/month billed annually (self-hosted option). Enterprise is contact sales. A Community Edition is available on GitHub. Choose n8n when developers need HTTP nodes, code steps, and self-hosting. It is the wrong default for a non-technical marketing team that only needed a CRM workflow builder.

Zapier and Make — connector automation (dollars omitted)

Zapier and Make remain the usual no-code connector layer. Zapier’s live pricing page did not yield a clean static table in this research pass; plan dollars are omitted rather than guessed. Treat Zapier as a real option when the constraint is 8,000-class app coverage and a non-technical builder. Re-check zapier.com/pricing before quoting a task tier.
