Online Form Builder Software: Fields, Logic, and Where Submissions Go

An online form builder is software for creating, hosting, and routing submissions — not a lesson in writing HTML. The job is: fields, logic, spam control, notifications, and a destination for the data (CRM, sheet, or payment). Template galleries and “free form maker” toys show up in the same searches; they are not this buyer guide.

Searches for online form creator, form maker, web form builder, contact form builder, drag-and-drop form builder, HTML form builder, and form generator belong here when the buyer is choosing software. A simple contact form and a multi-step intake with CRM routing are the same category at different depth — not two URLs. HTML-form tutorials and “paste this snippet” lessons are not this page; an HTML endpoint that receives a form you already coded is one deployment mode among hosted and embed. A landing page that happens to contain a form is landing page software. Triggered email or SMS after the submit is marketing automation.

Criteria that actually distinguish form products

Tally — unlimited forms on a documented free plan

Tally’s pricing page states unlimited forms and submissions on the free plan within fair-use guidelines, including conditional logic, signatures, calculations, file uploads, Google Sheets, Notion, Airtable, Zapier, Make, and webhooks. Pro is $24/month (custom domain, remove branding, collaboration, partial submissions, visit/drop-off analytics). Business is $74/month (data-retention controls, email verification). Choose Tally when the constraint is “stop paying per submission,” not when you needed Salesforce-native compliance forms.

Typeform — conversational, plan dollars from the official schema

Typeform’s pricing page lists Free plus Basic, Plus, Business, and Talent. JSON-LD on that page (retrieved 2026-08-28) lists Basic at $28/month, Plus at $56/month, and Business at $91/month USD. The product is one-question-at-a-time forms, video questions, and workflow connections. Choose Typeform when completion experience is the product. Do not treat those sticker prices as a quote if the live calculator changes the bundle.

Formstack — secure collection with published meters

Formstack public Forms vs Suite meters (official pricing page, annual display)
CriterionAnnual displayBuilders / forms / submissions
Forms$83/month billed annually ($99 monthly)1 builder · 25 forms · 1,000 submissions per form · 2 GB
Suite (Forms + Documents + Sign)$250/month billed annually ($299 monthly)3 builders · 100 forms · 5,000 submissions per form

Salesforce Solutions and Enterprise are custom-priced. HIPAA is listed as an add-on on Forms and Suite. A 14-day Forms trial is documented on the same page. Choose Formstack when routing, documents, or Salesforce-native capture is the job — not when you needed a Notion-style free form.

Jotform — template-heavy hosted builder

Jotform’s marketing site describes a no-code builder with conditional logic, payments, reports, workflow automation, and 150+ integrations. Public plan dollars were not captured cleanly on this pass (pricing page timed out) and are omitted. Treat Jotform as a real purchase when template breadth and widgets matter; re-check jotform.com/pricing before quoting a number.

HighLevel — forms that already live on the contact

HighLevel’s public pricing page lists websites, funnels, and workflow automation on the core platform. Forms and surveys exist as objects Ask AI can retrieve. That is useful when the submit must become a CRM contact, calendar booking, or SMS workflow in the same location. It is the wrong default when you only needed a standalone form tool, conversational UX, or a compliance form stack. Plan dollars stay on GoHighLevel pricing.

HTML-form tutorials, Google Forms internals, and “best free contact form plugins” are not this URL.

Which job you are actually buying

Buy Tally when the team will live in Notion/Sheets and must not pay per submission. Buy Typeform when drop-off on a long intake is the failure mode and a conversational flow is the fix. Buy Formstack when documents, e-sign, Salesforce-native capture, or a listed HIPAA add-on are on the purchase order. Buy Jotform when template/widget breadth is the reason for the SKU — after you have a live price from jotform.com/pricing. Buy HighLevel forms when the record must already be a CRM contact in a location you operate, not when form UX is the product.

Limitations that show up after checkout: Tally’s free plan is fair-use, not a legal SLA; Typeform’s sticker is a schema snapshot; Formstack’s Forms plan caps builders, forms, and submissions per form; HighLevel will not make a Typeform-style one-question flow or a Formstack document packet. If the page is really a paid traffic asset with visitor caps, you are on the wrong URL — use landing-page software.
